Nene Yokomura wins First Prize at Australia's premier guitar event

The 15th edition of the Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition culminated in the final on September 14, 2025, reaffirming its status as a premier global event and an important springboard for the next generation of artists. Following in the footsteps of past laureates like 2010 winner Jin-Hee Kim or Miles Johnston in 2018, this year’s finalists showcased an extraordinary level of artistry, with the top prize being awarded to a remarkable young guitarist from Tokyo.

Nene Yokomura is an acclaimed Japanese classical guitarist, born in Tokyo in 2002. Her musical journey began in 2008, with early tutelage under Noboru Muraji and YongTae Kim. She further refined her skills at the Tokyo College of Music High School, graduating with Honors. Yokomura has already made her mark on the international stage, securing high placements in prestigious competitions such as the Madrid International Guitar Competition and the International Guitar Competition "Ciutat d'Elx" in Spain. Her professional profile includes the 2020 release of her debut CD, Andaluza. She is currently advancing her studies under the guidance of maestro Francisco Bernier in Seville.
