A Tribute to Arthur Rubinstein and the Rubinstein Competition

Evgeny Kissin will perform a special Recital, held on March 28th, just before the two final concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

“Arthur Rubinstein has always been one of my heroes, both as one of the greatest pianists in history whose art is very close to my heart and as an outstanding human being: a true man of the world and at the same time a proud Jew and supporter of Israel. Even though I have never taken part in any competitions myself, I have a long relationship with the Arthur Rubinstein Competition. The very first solo recital I played in Israel back in 1994 was for the benefit of this Competition. For many years I was good friends with the Competition’s founder and long-time Director Jan (Jasha) Bistritzky. We spent lots of time together all over the world, and I’ll always cherish those moments. It is wonderful that the Arthur Rubinstein Competition continues to exist and flourish, and I am very happy to play another concert as a tribute to it”.   Evgeny Kissin

The artistic director of the competition, Ariel Cohen: "Approximately 300 candidates began the registration process for the competition, about 200 completed the registration, and from among them we had to choose only 35. We found it too difficult, so we decided to admit 39. The decision this year was more difficult than ever due to the extraordinary level of the candidates. I have never encountered such concentration until today of high-quality participants, so the competition this time is expected to be particularly fascinating."

The entire competition will be available also on livestream at www.arims.org.il
