Magnificent Voices at the Seoul Competition

57 young vocalists were selected to perform at Seoul Arts Center

Six finalists competed on the closing evening. Each demonstrated a distinct artistic voice and measurable development over the course of the competition; interpretation, technical control, and musical presence reached a high standard.

The jury, chaired by Youngok Shin, awarded First Prize to tenor Kanghan Chung. He performed Verdi’s “Tutto parea sorridere” from Il Corsaro, delivering a powerful, emotionally varied interpretation.

Second Prize went to Seowon Kim, who offered a performance marked by sincere, nuanced expression. For the final round he sang Wolfram’s aria “Blick’ ich umher in diesem edlen Kreise” from Wagner’s Tannhäuser.

Third Prize was awarded to baritone Unyoung Choi. Originally interested in pop music, Choi shifted to classical after being identified as a baritone in a lesson. He presented Ezio’s aria “Dagli immortali vertici” from Verdi’s Attila with intense commitment and dramatic focus.
