Horn resonates in north-eastern Italy!

The “Città di Porcia” Competition returns with its 35th edition dedicated to the horn, a landmark event for the best young brass talents, with an international jury and a program designed for young audiences.

The “Città di Porcia” Competition, conceived as a means of promoting wind instruments, and more specifically brass instruments, has as its main purpose the comparison between musicians from different schools and musical traditions with different interpretative styles and instrumental techniques. The competition serves as a springboard for young musicians and an opportunity to bring out new talent and future soloists. As proof of this, all the winners of past editions of the “Città di Porcia” competition are currently soloists or first chairs in important orchestras.

Its 2025 edition dedicated to the horn gathered 52 competitors registered, coming from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Its Final Concert took place on stage at the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Pordenone, with the FVG Orchestra conducted by Maestro Massimiliano Caldi.

In the program, the finalists had to perform one of the following pieces:

The Concertino by Carl Maria von Weber was interpreted by Antoine Jeannot and Richard Strauss’ Concerto No. 2 by both Daniel Loipold and Andrea Mancini.

During the jury's deliberations, the FVG Orchestra as a surprise performed Haydn's Symphony No. 94 in G major, “The Surprise,” maintaining dialogue with the audience until the winners were announced.

A student of Benoit de Barsony at the CNSMDP, Antoine Jeannot has already had the opportunity to play with several French orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Metz National Orchestra, as well as the orchestras of the Opéra national de Lorraine and the Opéra de Tours.

In 2020, Daniel Loipold wins a second prize at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and since then, has been a soloist with various orchestras in Austria and Germany, including the Schlesische Kammerorchester, the Philharmonie Gotha, the Bruckner Orchester Linz, and the Carinthian Sinfonieorchester.
