Raphael Nussbaumer was born in Altendorf, Switzerland in 2006.  At his baptism, he was offered his first violin. At the age of 4, he had his first violin lesson.   Two years later, he joined Philip Draganov’s violin class at the Zurich Conservatory.  In 2013 he won the third prize at the Zurich Music Competition.  He went on to win the first prize at the Swiss Youth Music Competition in 2014 as the youngest participant. 

In the autumn of 2014 and in the winter of 2015 Raphael concertized as soloist with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra at the Tonhalle in Zurich.  Later in 2015, he was awarded the prize of excellence at the Central Swiss Music Competition.

Raphael won the Swiss Youth Music Competition with distinction in 2016 as the only participant in his age group.  A year later, he performed in various concerts, including the Mendelssohn Concerto in E-minor with Kevin Griffiths as conductor. He went on to play at the Youth Classics Gala Concert.

In 2018 he performed E. Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole with the Symphony Orchestra of the Canton of Schwyz.  In the same year, he won the first prize with distinction at the Swiss Youth Music Competition as the only musician in his category.

Raphael took part in the Andrea Postacchini Violin Competition in Italy in 2018, as well. This was his first international violin competition, and he was awarded the second prize in the 12-16 year old category.  He then performed the Carmen Fantasie with the Academic Chamber Orchestra of Zurich under the baton of Lukas Meister at St. Peter’s Church in Zurich.
