Lorenz Karls was born in Vienna in 2001 into an Austrian-Swedish family. He began playing the violin at age four through the Suzuki method. Since 2016, Lorenz Karls is a student at Mozarteum University Salzburg. After completing the pre-college program, he now pursues his bachelor’s degrees with Professor Benjamin Schmid. Additionally, he attended masterclasses with prestigious artists like Maxim Vengerov, Julia Fischer, and Vadim Repin.

Lorenz Karls has won numerous prizes at national and international competitions. In 2015, he received the first prize both at the Grumiaux International Competition and at the Kocian International Competition. In 2017, he won the first prize at Ilona Feher competition and second prize at the International Telemann Violin Competition. In 2019 he won the first prize at Antonio Vivaldi international Competition and the second prize at Andrea Postacchini Competition. In 2020, he received the third prize at the International Mozart Competition as well as at the Khachaturian International Competition.
