Johannes Obermeier was born in Munich in 1998 and initially focused on two instruments: piano and saxophone. In 2012, he was accepted into the saxophone class of Koryun Asatryan and the piano class of Olaf Dreßler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich as a junior student. In addition to music, he began full studies in business administration at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich in 2016, graduating with a master's degree in March 2022. Since fall 2019, Johannes Obermeier has additionally been studying composition as a major with Jan Müller-Wieland as well as piano as an artistic major with Adrian Oetiker at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
Johannes Obermeier has been successful in competitions for many years; he won 1st prize at the Gasteig Competition and a 2nd prize at the Steinway Promotional Prize in 2022. He was also awarded the Günter Bialas Prize of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts for composition and supported by a German scholarship.
Johannes Obermeier also has a special interest in chamber music. In the last years he has been invited several times to festivals all over Germany. His work takes him together with musicians such as Gerold Huber, Volker Banfield, Ian Bostridge, Peter Michael Hamel, Donald Sulzen, Yaron Rosenthal, Christian Lauba, Mark Andre and Minas Borboudakis. Since winter semester 2021/22, Johannes Obermeier holds a student teaching position in the subject of for instrumental classes as well as opera and oratorio at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Munich.
