João Miguel Moreira da Silva

João Miguel Moreira da Silva (Portugal), started learning oboe when he was 9 years old, the music was always present in his family thanks to his father and sister who are both clarinetists. João studied in Lisbon with Oscar Viana and Luis Marques at the Music Conservatory in Lisbon and later did his Bachelor studies in Cologne (Germany) at the University of Music and Dance in the class of Christian Wetzel. 

After this period in Germany he moved to Switzerland where he started his Master Degree in Lausanne in the class of Jean-Louis Capezzali.

João is a prize winner in very prestigious competitions, including 3rd prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 2024,  2nd prize at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition in 2024. Some of these competitions gave him the chance to be soloist with orchestras as, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Orquestra Sinfonieta de Braga, Chieri Sinfonietta, Münchner Symphoniker, Zabrze Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, Orquestra Clássica do Sul, Neues Rheinisches Kammerorchester and Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, Sota Hyderabad Ensemble.

As an orchestral player, João collaborated already with the following orchestras, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Gürzenich Orchester, Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen, Kölner Kammerorchester, Youth Mediterranean Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, European Union Youth Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Den Norske Opera&Ballet Oslo, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

João is the Co-Principal Oboe in the Oslo Philarmonic Orchestra and collaborates very often with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and completing the master's degree program oboe at the HMTM in the class of Prof. François Leleux.
