The Johann Nepomuk Hummel Competition in Bratislava announces its 2024 winners

As a composer, pianist, conductor and piano teacher, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, born in Preßburg (Bratislava) in 1778, was one of the most briliant and most important personalities of the period between teh classical and the romantic music. Hummel ́s reputation as an outstanding musician begann in his child years already. Mozart was so impressed by that Wunderkind that he decided to give him free piano-lessons and let him stay in his hou- se as a guest. At that time (1787) Hummel geave his first public performance as a pianist in Dresden. On Mozart ́s advice, both Hummels – father Johannes and son Ne- pomuk – went for five years for concert and educational journey leading them as far as to Denmark or England. Hummel ́s concerts with Haydn in London became „The“ social event of that season.

Hummel is the namesake of the International Johann Nepomuk Hummel Piano Competition, founded by Marian Lapšanský in 1991 and held every three years ever since. Pavel Gililov, chair since 2011, led also this years international jury including Peter Pažický, Martin Kasík, Leonel Morales, Yaara Tal, Jingge Yan and Marian Lapšanský. The competition counted 32 applications from 17 countries.

First Prize was awarded to Anastasiia Kliuchereva, followed by Harrison Herman and Yuki Amako.

Anastasiia Kliuchereva is a student of Pavel Gililov at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Austria. Kliuchereva is also a scholarship recipient of the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive-study weeks held there. 

Anastasiia has won numerous prizes and awards, including First Prize at the Russian National Competition in Kirov, Russia, in 2011; the Grand Prix at the 2012 International Competition Music Without Limits in Druskininkai, Lithuania as well as First Prize at the 2014 International Piano Competition Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte in Ústínad Labem, Czech Republic.

Anastasiia Kliuchereva’s recent awards and prizes include the 2019 Yamaha Music Award at the Timakin International Piano Competition in Moscow, Russia; First Prize at the 2020 Sergei Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition in Moscow, Russia; the Grand Prix at the 2020 International Competition Citta di Barletta in Italy; Third Prize at the International Competition San Jose International Piano Competition in 2021, U.S.; and the Artistic Prize of Eppan Piano Academy in 2021, Italy.
