Due to the pandemic and the new developments,  the competition unfortunately cannot be held as planned in February 2022. Therefore, there will be now be only a video round (from February 5 to 14, 2022), followed by a semi-finale and finale in summer from July 20 – 24, 2022 on-site in Graz.

The new schedule in detail:
Until February 5, 2022: video submission by all invited ensembles
February 6 - 11, 2022: Jury evaluation phase and decision meeting
February 14, 2022: Announcement of semi-finalists
July 20 - 24, 2022: Semi-finals and finals on-site in Graz


FS&MM is not a competition like any other. Bringing Schubert’s chamber music into relation with both new and the latest works can be a challenging as well as rewarding experience for all participants and reveals the many facets of a professional & versatile musician.

With attached international composition competitions, the expansion of the chamber music repertoire gets actively promoted. Of the many composition that were submitted from all over the world, two composition of each category were chosen as compulsory pieces to become part of the individual repertoire of each ensemble participating in the FS&MM competition 2022.

Extra challenge in the category Lied Duo: Composer Judith Weir composed a commissioned work for the competition. The finalists will (premier) perform the piece after having only 36 hours of study time for it.
