Born in 2008 in Seoul, South Korea, Seohyun Kim was the winner of the 2022 Thomas and Evon Cooper International Violin Competition, the youngest ever to win the competition. She began to play the violin at age 5 and had performed as a soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles by the age of eight. Seohyun was a semi-finalist and the youngest participant in the 2021 Menuhin Competition, which was her first appearance on the international music stage. She has taken first prize at several international competitions including the Ysaÿe International Music Competition, the Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young Violinists, and the Berlin Rising Star Grand Prix in 2021.
Seohyun was invited by Maestro Gilbert Varga in 2021 to perform for the Tibor Varga Memorial Concerts with the Pannon Philharmonic in Budapest (Liszt Academy Grand Hall), Pécs (Kodály Center), and Györ in Hungary. Seohyun, who made her solo recital debut as a Kumho Prodigy Artist at the age of 12, has performed at the Lotte Concert Hall as a rising star of Gonjiam Music Festival and had two other solo recitals in 2021 as the Young Artist of the Year at Elim Art Center. She has collaborated with renowned orchestras in South Korea including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Daejeon Contemporary Music Festival Orchestra, the Jeonju Philharmonic, the Mokpo Symphony Orchestra, and the New Seoul Philharmonic. Recently, she was invited to perform at the Opening Concert of 2023 Kumho Prodigy Concert series. Seohyun had her fifth solo recital in January 2023.
