Motus Quartet

More information

The Motus Quartet was founded in 2022 and consists of Tim de Vries, Karla Križ, Erin Pitts, and Domonkos Hartmann. The young musicians met while studying in Vienna and are studying as a quartet with Johannes Meissl at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). The ensemble has received further musical inspiration from Hatto Beyerle, Eckart Runge, the Jerusalem Quartet, Tim Frederiksen, the Danish String Quartet, Minna Pensola, Clive Brown, Denis Brott, Bjørg Lewis, Vida Vujić, and Peter Schuhmayer, among others. The Motus Quartet regularly participates in ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and Musethica Sessions throughout Europe. At the mdw International Summer Academy (isa) 2023, it was awarded the Artis Quartet Prize and the Wiener Klassik Prize. In April 2023, the Motus Quartet made its debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in the Schubert Hall, and in March 2024, it made its debut at the Vienna Musikverein. Further concerts have taken the ensemble to Taiwan, Italy, Denmark, Tunisia, the USA, and Switzerland. Performances planned for the 2024/2025 season include performances in the Netherlands (Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Germany, and Hungary. In their free time, the quartet enjoys attending concerts together, enjoying international cuisine, knitting, and passionately playing table football. First violinist Tim de Vries plays a violin by Julia Maria Pasch (Vienna, 2024) and an instrument by the Cremonese luthier Lorenzo Storioni (1793). Karla Križ plays a composite violin (Cremona, 17th century), partly made by Andrea Guarneri.
