Maël Metzger began playing the flute at the age of six at the Vincennes Conservatory. In 2021, he was admitted to the Paris CNSMD, in the class of Professor Philippe Bernold. Currently pursuing a master’s degree, he also studies piano, piccolo, and chamber music. 

Maël has won numerous competitions, including the Épinal International Piano Competition, the Clés d’Or, the Festival de la Flûte Française, and the International Flute Competition Ferdinand W. Neess. In 2024, he was selected for the Maxence Larrieu Competition, an international event named after the legendary 20th-century flutist. He holds the position of principal flute within various orchestras (Philharmonie de Paris, CNSMDP, Orchestre Français des Jeunes, and Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, etc.) and performs at festivals (Pacific Music Festival, Berlioz Festival, Aix-en-Provence, Grafenegg, and Schleswig-Holstein, etc.). 

Additionally, he has performed with the ensemble Le Balcon at the Philharmonie de Paris and joined the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra for its symphonic sessions in Aix-en-Provence in July 2023.

Maël is also a founding member of the Jupiter Quintet, with which he regularly performs chamber music in various configurations (quintets, sextets, and duos), covering a repertoire that spans from classical to contemporary works.
