More information
Jan Vobořil (born May 10, 2005, in Prague) is a Czech horn player, composer, and one of the most successful musicians of his generation. He received his first musical training early on at home, initially learning recorder, violin, and piano. At age eight, he decided on the horn, strongly influenced by his father, principal hornist of the Czech Philharmonic, who also shaped his further musical development.
His education took him from the music school in Police nad Metují to the Prague City Grammar School and Music School, and later to the Prague Conservatory. Since 2023, he has been studying at the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU). He was recognized early on in national and international competitions, and while still a teenager he appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, and the Czech Student Philharmonic.
His early achievements include prizes at the International Wind Instrument Competition in Brno, as well as the Czech Philharmonic's national interpretation competition. He also drew attention with his own compositions, some of which he conducted and performed himself, including at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Already as a teenager, he was repeatedly invited as a soloist to major festivals and concert series.
In the following years, he continued his competition successes, winning first prizes multiple times at international wind competitions in Pardubice and Brno. In 2024, he placed 6th out of 140 participants from around the world at the renowned "Prague Spring" International Competition. He was subsequently engaged as a permanent member of the Czech Philharmonic's horn section.
