Haddon Kay

Born in 1999, Chinese-American cellist Haddon Kay began studying the cello at the age of 4. He first gained recognition when he was a finalist in the Chicago Symphony Young Artist Competition and performed the Samuel Barber Cello Concerto with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He won the 3rd prize in cello category at the George Enescu International Music Competition in 2024.

He continued his studies in cello performance at Northwestern University under the tutelage of Professor Hans Jørgen Jensen. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 2022 and will continue his Master’s studies at Northwestern as a recipient of the Eckstein Fellowship. He participated in the 2nd Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium and was the winner of the Concerto/Aria Competition at Northwestern University. Haddon Kay is a founding member of the Galvin Cello Quartet, formed at the Bienen School of Music in 2021, which won the Concert Artists Guild’s 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition and the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and recently toured the United States.
