Davidoff Trio
More information
The Davidoff Trio, consisting of Johannes Wendel (violin), Christoph Lamprecht (cello), and Yona Sophia Jutzi (piano), was founded in Mainz in January 2021. Already recognized as a prize-winning ensemble at the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition in autumn 2021, the trio has since pursued a busy concert schedule throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, appearing at festivals such as the Brixen Classics Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Festival Musikdorf Ernen, and the Swiss Chamber Music Festival Adelboden.
Concert recordings of the Davidoff Trio have been broadcast internationally several times, most recently on SRF Kultur. The trio was awarded the annual prize of the Friends of Young Musicians Kassel in 2023 and is supported by the Walter Kaminsky Foundation and the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature. In 2024, the ensemble received the Classical Scholarship from the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation and was thus included in the foundation's concert funding program. They also won third prize at the International Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award in Lugano (CH).
The trio is currently pursuing a master's degree in chamber music at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen under Professor Thomas Hoppe. The ensemble also receives chamber music lessons from Emanuel Wehse (Morgenstern Trio), Professor Andreas Lehmann (Liszt Trio Weimar), and Professor Boris Kusnezow. Master classes with Professor Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet), Professor Eberhard Feltz, Professor Konstantin Heidrich (Fauré Quartet), and Professor Angelika Merkle complement the young musicians' chamber music training.
The name “Davidoff Trio” goes back to the first work they created together: Anton Arensky dedicated his 1st Piano Trio in 1894 to the memory of the great cellist and composer Carl Davidoff (1838-1889) - this music and the associated process of founding the ensemble are so closely linked that the three musicians essentially only have the death of the cello virtuoso to thank for the fact that they are now making music together.
