Byoungho Kang

Byoungho Kang was born in South Korea in 2003. He is currently studying in the renowned tuba class at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover under Jens Bjørn-Larsen.

He participated in masterclasses led by Vikentios Gionanidis at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and with Constantin Hartwig of the Staatskapelle Dresden, where he furthered his musical training.

He received numerous awards even during his school years. He won the third prize at the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen in 2026. He was awarded the Seoul Arts High School Music Prize and the Im Won-sik Art Prize. In addition, he graduated from the school’s music department in 2021 as the top student in his class.

In 2025, he was honored as a member of the Kaiser Ensemble at the Ljubljana International Competition – Brass Quintets and Quartets 2025. He also performed as a soloist in a concert by Arild Plau alongside the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock.

Byoungho Kang achieved further international success by winning 2nd prize at the Jeju International Wind & Percussion Competition 2020. Guest appearances have taken him to venues including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bremerhaven Philharmonic Orchestra, the Theater für Niedersachsen, and the Gwacheon Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition to his work as a soloist and chamber musician, Byoungho Kang is deeply committed to orchestral performance and is increasingly establishing himself as a versatile tuba player among the young international generation.
