Born in 1993 in Busan, South Korea, Minsoo Hong began studying the piano at age six. From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Hong studied with In-il Kim, then from 2005 to 2013 with Daejin Kim, first in the preparatory division of the Korean National University of the Arts, before going onto the college division of the same school. He also attended for three years the Korean National Institute for the Gifted in Arts. Since 2013, Mr. Hong has studied at Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany under the tutelage of Alfredo Perl.

Mr Hong has won top prizes in some of the world’s most prestigious competitions such as the Isang Yun competitions. He also won 4th Price and Special Prize for the Best Interpretation of a Piece by Liszt at the 2011 Busoni Competition. Most recently, he won Second Prize at the 11th Liszt International Competition in Utrecht. As part of the Career Development Programme offered by the Liszt Competition, he immediately embarked on a tour of the Netherlands with recitals lined up in the United States, Austria, Norway, and Germany.

As a solo recitalist, Minsoo Hong has performed all over Asia; in his native Korea, as well as in China, and Japan. In Europe, he has given recitals at the Salle Cortot in France, in Brescia for the Giovani Interpreti Associati, at the 2008 Braunschweig Classix Festival in Germany, and at the Piano Festivities at Isrotel, Israel, in a tribute to Artur Rubinstein.

Mr. Hong has appeared with all the major orchestras in Korea including the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Sinfonietta, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Seoul, Busan, Bucheon and Seongnam. Abroad, he has collaborated with conductors Markus Stenz, Ken-David Masur, Marco Parisotto, Jin Kim, and Moyoung Gu, and has performed with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Morocco Philharmonic, as well as the Shanghai Philharmonic. In 2012, he appeared on the Korean Arts Network in a performance of Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, and in 2014, also played on German radio (WDR) the music of Berg and Liszt. Over the years, he has participated in masterclasses with Jerome Rose, Ruth Slenczynska, Michael D'Alberto, Andrea Bonatta, Christopher Elton and Peter Frank, among others.
