Ruth Puhr to take the helm in Sion

Fabien Girard leaves after 11 years at the Tibor Varga Competition

The Sion Violon Musique Foundation is about to undergo an important change: Vice-President Ruth Puhr is to become its General Manager from October onwards. She succeeds Fabien Girard, a current Board member.

After eleven years of loyal service, five as Director of the Sion Festival and six as the Foundation's operational director, Fabien Girard will be moving on to new professional horizons. "Over these 11 years, I've been able to grow with the Foundation and develop it into a healthy structure today, whose events are increasingly successful. All this has been achieved thanks to a golden team at the service of music and the creativity of our Artistic Director Pavel Vernikov, joined this year by Janine Jansen. I'd like to thank everyone I've had the pleasure of working with, especially Chantal Balet and Olivier Vocat, who placed their trust in me 11 years ago”.

Ruth Puhr is currently responsible for quality assurance and academic development at Les Roches Private College (hotel business, tourism, event management) in Crans-Montana, where she has worked since 2006. She holds Master's degrees in Musicology and Information Technology from Durham University, and a PhD in Higher Education from University College London. Before settling in Switzerland, she worked for many years at the Royal Theatre in Newcastle, where she acquired solid skills in cultural management.

"After 12 years on the Foundation Board, I'm delighted to be taking on this role at a key moment, with the opening of the wonderful Pôle Musique and the long-awaited inauguration of the BCVS Noda Hall, scheduled for late summer 2025.  I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for entrusting me with this task. The Foundation will continue to promote the city of Sion on the national and international music scene, and to build on its reputation"

In Valais, Ruth Puhr has been involved in musical life for many years as a member of the Committee of the Association of Orchestras (ADO) of the Cantonal Conservatory and as Vice-President of the Sion Violon Musique Foundation, for which she is also responsible for coordinating volunteers.
