Piano Trio and Quartet at the Osaka Chamber Music Competition

The 11th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition was held from 12 to 18 May, comprising both a string quartet  and a piano trio/quartet category.

In the string quartet category, Quartetto Indaco won first prize and will receive an award of ¥2,500,000. The quartet, comprises violinists Eleonora Matsuno and Ida Di Vita, violist Jamiang Santi and cellist Cosimo Carovani and will also receive the MK Memorial Award of ¥500,000, as well as a Bordeaux String Quartet Festival Award, which will promise an appearance in concert and masterclass at the 2024 Vibre! Bordeaux International String Quartet Festival.

HONO Quartet won second prize, while the Terra Quartet won third prize. The Thaleia Quartet also received a Bordeaux String Quartet Festival Award, while the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition 2023 Ambassador Awards went to the HONO, Malion and Moser Quartet. 

In the piano trio/quartet Category, Capybara Piano Quartet won first prize of¥2,500,000, plus the MK Memorial Award of ¥500,000. The quartet comprises pianist Mario Häring, violinist Shuichi Okada, violist Takehiro Konoe and cellist Minji Kim. Trio Pantoum and Trio Michelangeli won second and third prizes, respectively.

Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa has been held every three years since 1993 to honor superior performances of young musicians who devote themselves to chamber music and to promote chamber music in Japan.
This year marks its 30th year. Today, it is regarded as one of the world's seven major Chamber Music Competitions and has become a goal for young musicians aiming for the world.

This year’s Competition & Festa 2023 was held by succeeding the concept of the 10th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa which was scheduled to be held in 2020.
