Flaneries de Reims takes off with WFIMC Concerts

First of three festival collaborations this year

First among a collaboration with a number of music festivals, the “Flaneries Musicales de Reims” opened on 15 June in Reims, capitol of the Champagne region of France.

Champagne being the trademark of the city, it was no wonder that one of our performances, a song recital with Sawako Kayaki and Haruka Ebina (laureates of the 2022 "Franz Schubert and Modern Music” Competition in Graz) took place in the Hôtel Particulier du Champagne Taittinger, a major brand of bubbly champagne, well known around the world. The day before, Chaos Quartet (ARD Competition 2022) and Alexander Ullmann (Liszt Utrecht 2017) had performed at the Cellars of Champagne Louis Roederer, another high-profile venue.

June 17 will see a concert of the Spanish “Azahar Ensemble”, a wind ensemble well known since its success at the ARD Competition in 2014. Finally, pianist Kevin Chen, recent winner of the Rubinstein and Geneva Competitions, will perform on 4 July on an orchestral concert with the Orchestre de Picardie.

For 2024, WFIMC is working on a renewal of the partnership despite a recent change in leadership at the festival in Reims. Other collaborations beginning this year will see a number of recent WFIMC competition laureates at the Opera House in Dubai (performances planned throughout the coming season) as well as at the DMZ Festival in Goyang, South Korea (4-11 November 2023).
