Klaipeda - International Klaipeda David Geringas Cello Competition
The International Klaipėda David Geringas Cello Competition was established in 2017 at the initiative of Klaipėda Concert Hall and cellist Mindaugas Bačkus. Held every two years in Lithuania’s port city of Klaipėda, it brings together young and professional cellists from around the world. The competition offers participants opportunities to demonstrate their artistry, develop their skills and gain international recognition, while encouraging exchange between musicians of different generations and musical traditions.

Agenda
In 2023, the competition was named after internationally renowned Lithuanian cellist, educator and conductor David Geringas. With each edition, it attracts more participants and offers a growing prize fund. The next edition will take place on 3–8 May 2027, with participants competing in two categories: Junior and Professional. The Junior category comprises three age groups — A (up to 10 years), B (up to 14 years) and C (up to 18 years). The Professional category, Group D, is open to cellists aged 30 or younger on the first day of the competition. Held alongside the International Klaipėda Cello Festival, the competition also gives participants access to a diverse programme of concerts featuring leading cellists, contemporary music and collaborations across art forms.
