Jeju - Jeju International Composition Competition

The Jeju International Composition Competition for Wind Orchestra is organized by the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival

Organizing Committee to promote the creation of new wind ensemble music and to highlight Jeju’s cultural value as the Island of Peace.

Established in 2021, the competition will hold its fifth edition in 2026. It became a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) in June 2025. Submitted works must be based on at least one traditional folk song of Jeju, reflecting the competition’s aim to reinterpret the island’s unique musical identity within the modern wind orchestra repertoire.

Eligibility

Applicants must be under 40 years of age (born on or after April 1, 1985).

No nationality restrictions.

 

Schedule

Submission Period: February 2 (Mon) February 11 (Wed), 2026

- Preliminary Round (Score Review): February 20 (Fri), 2026

- Final Round (Live Performance): March 21 (Sat), 2026

 

Finalists

Finalists must arrive in Jeju by the morning of March 19 (Thu), two days prior to the final performance.

Round-trip economy-class airfare and accommodation with breakfast will be provided to all finalists.


Jury

Up to seven distinguished composers and conductors from Korea and abroad will serve on the jury.

 

Prizes & Awards

1st Prize USD 6,000

2nd Prize USD 4,000

3rd Prize USD 2,000

If no work is deemed suitable, prizes may be withheld.

All prize money is paid after tax deductions.

1) Entry Fee: None

2) Application Form (available on the JIWEF official website / Notice section)

3) Copy of ID including date of birth

4) Profile photo (min. 1MB)

5) Full score and parts (PDF format)

 ※ The title and instrumentation must be written on the cover page; the composer’s name must not appear.

6) MP3 audio file (minimum 128kbps / 44.1kHz / Stereo)

Submitted materials will not be returned.


 

Submitted works must be based on one or more of the twelve traditional folk songs of Jeju.
