Belgrade - International Competition of Young Musicians

It is with great pleasure that we would like to inform you that the 53rd International Competition of Young Musicians in the category of viola will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, from the 7th till the 17th of December 2026.

The competition was founded in 1971 and it boasts a rich tradition. Since 1974 it has been a member of WFIMC. In early 2026 the Belgrade Festivals Center - CEBEF has been appointed as a principal organiser of the competition.

Some of the competition laureates were: cellists Mineo Hayashi, Ina-Esther Joost, Kirill Rodin, pianists Natalia Trull, Philippe Bianconi, Andrey Ivanov and Marta Czech, violinists Gottfried Schneider, Nazar Fedyuk and Alexis Galpérine, flutist Irena Grafenauer, clarinetists James Campbell, Mate Bekavac, Stojan Krkuleski, oboist Helen Jahren, solo voice Milena Kitić, wind quintet “Paul Taffanel” Moscow String Quartet and many others.

Every year the Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities under 30 years of age. The categories most often are violin, violoncello, piano, guitar, singing, flute, and chamber music, but also composition (1979, 1985, 1990, 2000), string orchestra (1982, 1986, 1996) and viola (1982).

We are proud and happy to have the opportunity to welcome to Belgrade gifted young violists and to enable them to show their commitment to the instrument and their passion for playing. 

The three best competitors will be awarded monetary prizes:
1st prize – 10 000 euros
2nd prize – 5 000 euros
3rd prize – 3 000 euros, 
and special awards will be given to the best Serbian competitor in the finals and for the best performance of the compulsory piece.
