Sotiris Athanasiou

More information

Born into a musical family and forged into the heart of Paris, Sotiris is following a path accompanied by the guitar from the very start. The award-winning guitarist’s multicoloured repertoire starts from the 17th century to music written today, collaborating with composers in his search to expand the repertoire of his instrument. Appreciated by the artists of the French capital, he has been hailed for his musicality and technique on the guitar.

The Greek guitarist has won numerous awards in prestigious international competitions, including the 2nd prize at the Adelaide International Guitar Competition in 2024, the 1st Prizes in the Antony International Guitar Competition(France) and in the Seville International Guitar Festival (Spain) while also becoming Lauréat of the Fondation Banque Populaire and named “Révélation Guitare Classique 2024” by the French magazine Guitare Classique. An inspired guitar teacher, he is invited to give masterclasses at festivals while also holding a position in the Regional Conservatory of Versailles.

Sotiris owes his musical path to his father, who was his first teacher. After graduating from the Conservatory of Macedonia (class of Fotis Baxes), he moved to France, where the Conservatoire of Bordeaux was his next stop, then Seville (class of Francisco Bernier) and finally the Conservatoire de Paris under Olivier Chassain and later Tristan Manoukian. Currently he’s following the advices of Judicaël Perroy. Still a resident of the Conservatoire, he is pursuing the Artist Diploma.
