Born in Paraguay, Michiaki began playing the cello in Japan, then in Barcelona with Iñaki Etxepare. Back in Japan, he studied with Hakuro Mohri at the Toho Gakuen School for ten years. He continued his studies in Düsseldorf with Pieter Wispelwey and recently joined the Chapelle Royale in Brussels with Gary Hoffman.
He showed a particular talent early on, performing as a soloist at the age of 11 at Suntory Hall in Tokyo and then winning the Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians at 13 and the Romanian Youth Competition at 14; in 2018 he was Second Prize winner of the Lutosławsky International Competition in Warsaw. He takes masterclasses from the best international teachers, plays in many Festivals, and performs as a soloist with the best orchestras in Europe and Japan.
